Flat refurbishment
The following is only a brief overview as I have a full record of all events and the detail needs to be seen to see how terrible this builder is and how he lies so much.
The project was to refurbish an upstairs and downstairs flat where the upstairs only needed some upgrade to the kitchen and bathroom and some decoration and new carpets. The downstairs needed a full fit out. I had several quotes and decided to go with a contractor which had been recommended. The person recommending was also not so truthful I found out later.
The original quote was done in Oct 2021 and was for £22,000 but then in June 2022 I had a re quote done and the new estimate was £32000.
Once the builder started he began charging for additional items he said were not on the quote but they actually were. He said he bought an upgraded kitchen because he could get at the same price as a basic one and my quote would not change. I had already paid him a deposit of £15000 and he started demanding more for what he described as additional work.
He then started adding costs and said the kitchen was an upgrade and he wanted another £1200. He then said the roof was not included even though it was on the quote and then added £1500. He said it had deteriorated so since Oct 2021 to June 2022 it had remained the same but from June to Sep it had deteriorated to warrant an additional £1500. He did this on a few things and kept saying if I didn't pay he would walk off the job. He then only did the additional items like the roof and demanded payment otherwise he would walk off. It took him 3 months to do what was planned for 3 weeks. I ended up having to set an end date and he still didn’t meet that, and I have now had to take legal proceedings against him and have changed the locks and stopped him entering. In the end he has only upgraded the upstairs flat and has been paid £20000. That is £10,000 more than the agreed price for the flat

I paid for a mediator to set up an agreement. He broke the agreement several times and always missed deadlines. The quality of work was not as agreed
