Corrupt Roofing Company Listed as

Checkatrade-Vetting Ltd was negligent for accepting a newly incorporated roofing company as a Chekatrade “Trusted Trader” and breached of the stated rigorous check that the company/trader has a good trading history.
The roofing company in question was All City Roofing Ltd, Co Number: 13835670, who according to Companies House were incorporated on 8th January 2022 but by April 2022 was effectively defunct. In February 2022 I put in a general request on the Checkatrade website for a roofer to repair my wind damaged roof and they passed my contact details to All City Roofing Ltd. Following a phone call on the 25th February 2022 from All City Roofing Ltd a rep visited my house and recommended that my roof be rebuilt which I agreed to.
The rebuilding of the roof was carried out the following week. Later I was to discover the physical work was subcontracted to another company JAP Roofing Contractor Limited when I became involved a dispute between the two companies about payment owed to the subcontracted company.
In late April I was made aware that All City Roofing Ltd was no longer operating by a cold calling builder from STL Roofing Contractors Ltd claiming to be an inspector. On inspecting the loft the builder found the reroofing had been very poorly carried out with damp already present inside the roof and recommended it be redone which he could do for £15,000. The bad condition of the new roof was confirmed a couple of days later when I got a second opinion from another builder who did an hour long inspection of the loft. In vain I tried to contact All City Roofing to invoke their 25 year guarantee but could get no response from them either by email or phone. At that point I felt compelled to get the roof rebuilt again costing £14,320. In the following weeks I made further attempts to contact All City Roofing Ltd as recommended by Citizens Advice. My letters sent to their company address by Royal Mail "Signed For" post were returned unanswered.

In their Standards booklet downloaded from their website, Checkatrade claim they carry out 12 rigorous checks on each trader they list but I can’t believe they could have with All City Roofing. In particular how could there have been a rigorous good trading history check on All City Roofing Ltd who had been trading less than 7 weeks at the point I was first in contact with them.

Attempts to resolve dispute:

I submitted my case to the Checkatrade Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme which concluded I offered no proof of my claim against Checkatrade as if all I suffered was not proof in its self. As I pointed out in my response to the ADR no proof has been forth coming from Checkatrade especially regarding their good trading history rigorous check of All City Roofing Ltd.
While acknowledging the ADR judgement that the £31,000 I paid to All City Roofing Ltd is legally down to me I strongly feel Checkatrade-Vetting Ltd failed to rigorously check All City Roofing Ltd exposing me to the roofing scam I suffered. As a compromise to resolve this dispute I've informed Checkatrade-Vetting Ltd that I will except £15,380 as compensation. It having cost me £14,380 to have the roof rebuilt a second time + £1000.00 that Checkatrade guarantee against a project going wrong.
