Dispute details:

Poor quality and mortar not up to spec

£17k charged for an awful quality build. The wall was knocked down accidentally by the builders. They rebuilt it then the owner rushed them offsite to move onto something else so told them to backfill the wall with Dili before it was even backfilled with concrete. It then bowed and fell again and bricklayer had to build again. Quality of mortar is terrible, very Sandy and I have sent off to be tested as it just crumble only a few months after its completion. The brick layer was back filling the retaining wall with a mix of sand, cement and our soil. I found out from someone else that if the soil freezes or will expand, so shouldn’t be filling a retaining wall with that. The whole build was rushed as he lost money from his own fault rushing the men but then cut corners trying to get off site. Builder also told building control I wanted to save money so he removed one retaining wall. That wasn’t the case, I wanted it build to specification from engineer which he said it has, but it hasn’t. I’ve told him throughout I’m not happy with quality and one wall started bowing out, he just patched it up instead of offering to resolve.. he offered to resolve once but at extra cost however the issue isn’t our fault so we shouldn’t bear the cost of sorting the awful poor quality. We are devastated and left with an unsafe build that is meant to be walkable on top. Very heart breaking that we have been ripped off by a cowboy builder.
