Dispute details:
WOOD FLOORING PAID FOR HAS NOT BEEN DELIVERED OR FITTED.
JT Bespoke Limited (hereinafter JT) is a one man company through which carpentry and joinery services have been provided. I have used JT's services three times from 2023 to 2024 having found the company through one of the most established trader recommendation sites. The company did a good job and I didn't have any complaints.
So in July 2025 I asked the company to fit some wood flooring. I chose the flooring, sourced through its supplier, and in July 2025 I paid the full cost of the flooring and a skip, described as a “deposit” on the quote, £5,977.03. I was told that the flooring had been purchased and delivered to the joiner.
Fitting was planned for end August but following the bank holiday weekend no one arrived to fit the flooring.
An unforeseen family matter was the explanation given (in detail that cannot be published here) for the delayed fitting for the whole of September but I waited patiently, rearranged the fitting date with a further delay and asked for an update every now and again. The company returned to work in the last couple of days of the month.
A new fitting date was agreed for the beginning of the following week, 6th October. No one arrived and despite endless calls, texts and emails I heard nothing. I contacted the trader recommendation site noted earlier, who told me that JT had recently de-listed and they offered to contact their ex-client for me. Following further communication by email and letter I eventually heard very briefly from the company. Another family matter had arisen (details cannot be given here), again preventing fitting, but this was expected to be resolved by the end of October. This date came and went without any explanation.
I therefore formally in letters at least twice, and informally in texts and voicemails, offered to arrange collection of the flooring at my expense and would arrange fitting separately, leaving JT to focus on other priorities. I have heard nothing in response to these offers. If the flooring was purchased and has been stored correctly and the reasons for the delays are genuine, there is no reason for my offer to not be accepted. My concerns have multiplied over time. In any case it is way beyond reasonable to expect me to wait when money was paid in July.
Two weeks ago I issued a formal letter before action, giving JT until 5th January 2026 to respond otherwise I will progress proceedings against the company through the courts. I have heard nothing, even to say that the letter has been received and a response is being formulated. So I have decided to make this post as a new avenue to contact the company which is still shown as active on companies house.

Attempts to resolve dispute:
Many calls, texts, letters and emails, including formal letters and a letter before action. Letters have been sent by post and email. I know that the email copy has been received. I have offered several times to collect the flooring rather than expect the flooring to be fitted. I have offered alternative dispute resolution as part of the letter before action.
