Dispute details:

Ace Handyman Services’ Failure to complete work and honor their own guarantees!

I hired Ace Handyman Services – The Hamptons / Long Island Strategic LLC for interior door, closet-door, and pocket-door work at my home. The job was represented as work that would be performed by experienced Ace Handyman professionals and backed by Ace Handyman Services’ advertised workmanship/craftsmanship guarantee.

In my experience, the work performed was not close to the level of quality Ace publicly advertises. The project was defective, incomplete, and dragged on far beyond what was originally represented. Door openings, reveals, trim, alignment, hardware, and the pocket door were left with significant workmanship issues. Several doors did not operate or fit properly, the pocket door work was especially problematic and inoperable, and the home was left with damage to walls, trim, finishes, door openings, and related areas. There was also damage to our Restoration Hardware light fixture/lens, which they never disclosed. Crews showed up without notice and unprepared with the correct tools for the job. Security cameras revealed multiple times crew members rummaging through my personal tools and personal items in my garage. The work was visibly poor, incomplete, and not acceptable as finished professional door installation, but their owner considered the work complete. It has since been reviewed by many other local contractors all of who back our claim of shoddy and unprofessional workmanship. In addition, the owners failed to gain proper permitting and his insurance company United Farm Family has been non-responsive.

What makes this especially concerning is that Ace Handyman Services advertises a one-year workmanship/craftsmanship guarantee and promotes its services as being backed by the Ace name. As a customer, I relied on that brand promise when hiring them. But when I tried to escalate the matter beyond the local franchise, Ace Corporate did not provide any meaningful remedy or corporate review. Instead, I was routed back to the same local franchise that performed the defective work and is also a subject of my complaint. NOTE and BEWARE: ACE HARDWARE seems to have NO affiliation with these Handyman Services. When you hire these local franchises you are NOT BACKED BY ACE!

That leaves me with a very serious concern: the guarantees advertised to customers appears to provide no meaningful protection when the local franchise fails to properly complete or correct the work. In my case, the Ace name and guarantee were used to sell trust and confidence, but when the workmanship failed, there was no effective corporate backing, no real escalation path, and no remedy consistent with what Ace publicly promises.

I am seeking the return of payments made for the defective and incomplete work, as well as reimbursement for the cost to repair the resulting damage and restore my home. I also believe consumers should be made aware that the Ace Handyman Services guarantee, at least in my experience, did not function as advertised.

Attempts to resolve dispute:

I have attempted to resolve this directly with Ace Handyman Services – The Hamptons, the local franchise owner, and Ace Corporate. Despite multiple follow-ups, the defective and incomplete work has not been properly resolved, and Ace Corporate has directed me back to the same local franchise that is the subject of the complaint.

I am requesting a refund of the payments made for the defective/incomplete work, and reimbursement for the cost to repair the resulting damage and restore my home to the condition it should have been in had the work been performed properly. This includes payment for corrective work by qualified contractors, repair of damaged walls, trim, door openings, pocket-door framing/opening areas, damaged doors, finishes, and the damaged Restoration Hardware light fixture/lens.
